I was diagnosed with post-herpetic neuralgia as a result of shingles. I was prescribed narcotic pain medication (oxycodone) for associated pain from the condition. I was never warned or told of any possible side affects from this medication and I believe now that I was given way too much. This went on for at least 18 months completely unchecked by my doctor despite many tries by me to seek a permanent fix to the condition rather than just taking medication. I became physically addicted to the narcotics and also mentally after some time. My doctor was absolutely negligent in treating my condition in at least a few different ways. I believe I was way overprescribed in both amount of pills and dosage. I was never warned of the inevitability of physical or mental addiction to the drugs given to me. I was never asked to read or sign what is referred to as a “narcotic medication agreement” form. I recently checked myself into an addiction treatment facility where I learned that I was absolutely addicted to this drug and that my doctor was absolutely responsible for causing this addiction by wrongly prescribing me narcotic pain medications for my condition. I would be happy to provide to you any information be it medical or any other information that would help in finding out whether or not this is actually a case of medical malpractice which I wholly believe is.
